Where you live decides which one you use. Both put apps on your device without going through the App Store.
An official marketplace, installed from your phone
In the European Union, Japan and Brazil, AltStore PAL installs itself directly. Apps are notarised by Apple, there is no Apple ID to hand over, no seven-day expiry, and no limit on how many apps you keep installed.
Available anywhere, with a computer nearby
Classic installs .ipa files using AltServer on your Mac or PC, and supports just-in-time compilation for emulators that need it. Apple's free developer limits apply: three apps at a time, refreshed every seven days.
